Designed and built to the highest marine standards for all-weather cruising, Umiak V takes her lines from the Wm. Garden-designed Fisheries Patrol and Canadian Coast Guard vessels that have patrolled the British Columbia coast since the 1970s.
Constructed of heavy gauge aluminium, she is certified to Lloyd’s Register. Her hull and superstructure are heavily insulated for acoustic, thermal and fire control. Three double staterooms each have a dedicated head and shower, with an additional day head in the pilothouse.
On deck, the mast carries a crow’s nest steering station for marina and confined-water manoeuvring. It lowers to boathouse height using the large hydraulic davit, which also launches the 14′ RIB and the electric ATV. A third control station is on the aft deck.
In contrast to the patrol theme outside, the interior is all yacht: bright and airy Douglas fir joinery, cork soles, and top-quality fixtures and appliances. Tricell honeycomb panels were used to reduce weight, lowering her centre of gravity to improve sea keeping and making auxiliary stabilisation unnecessary.
All glazing is double pane and nitrogen filled, giving acoustic and thermal performance rarely experienced in pleasure yachts. The pilothouse offers 360-degree visibility and its own day head, making it the seaman-like station for close-quarters piloting and extended passages.
Complete and redundant Furuno electronics including sonar combine with Maretron monitoring, Prime Mover Controls and commercial-grade components throughout, producing a reliable and confidence-inspiring vessel that has made annual voyages to Alaska from her boathouse in Sidney, BC every year since construction.
A large 2,100 amp hour house bank of AGM batteries, two Trace 4000 inverters and a hydraulic alternator provide ample silent mooring and recharging capability for offshore or coastal cruising. The full-height engine room makes routine checks and maintenance straightforward.
A maximum of 22 knots, an economical 12 to 16 knot cruise and 1,100 miles of range at 12 knots put distant destinations within modest timelines when they are wanted. A proven, fully found “anywhere, anytime” motor yacht in top condition — a rare opportunity.
